Another Christmas block

Three Dudes Quilt Block.

Requirements:

4 Width of fabric (WOF) strips 2 1/2" wide.
Strips for sashing.
Batting.
Backing.
Thread.

Cut 4 strips across the width of the fabric, arrange them in a way that pleases you. sew the strips together  with a 1/4" seam then press, make sure the seams on the back all go in one direction.

Measure from top to bottom, it should be 81/2 inches.

Cut your strip into 81/2inch squares, you should get 4 squares out of the strip if you fabric is 42 inches wide, if its 45 you will get 5. To make a table runner you will need 6 squares, so cut 4 strips of fabric at least 10" long and sew together, trim down to 81/2"

Take one strip and lay it down with the strips going from side to side. Take the second strip and lay it over the first with the strips going from top to bottom.

Take it to the sewing machine and stitch round all four sides with a 1/4" seam.

Take your ruler and cut diagonally across from top left to bottom right. Then reverse and cutfrom top right to bottom left.

This is how it should look

Open the pieces out and this is what you see. Take it to the ironing board and press making sure there are no little folds.

Then you can play about and see what different settings you can get. This is one.

A second one

A third one, try them out for yourself.

I sewed mine into the first setting. Joined the top two pieces and then the bottom two pieces together and then sewed across the centre seam

Where there are four seams that come together, I use Eleanor Burns method to make a tiny 4 patch on the back, it helps to make the centre of the block lie flat and is easier to quilt over.

To make a table runner you need to make 3 blocks the same.

Watch out for the next tutorial, I will show you how to sash and border a table runner.
